| Propriety | Value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Formaldehyde | 24 to 52,5 ± 0.5%w | ISO 2227-1972w |
| Metanol | < 1,5%w | Gas Cromatography |
| Acidity (as formic acid) | < 0.035% | ASTM D2379-09 |
| pH | 2,5 ÷ 4,5 | |
| Iron | < 0.5 ppm | ASTM D2087-22 |

A formaldehyde aqueous solution with lower acidity and lower methanol content can be available on request.
Packaging
Formaldehyde solution is normally sold in bulk liquid form via full tank-truck lots (from 22 to 25 tons).
Applications
This compound is used mainly in the manufacture of phenol, urea, thiourea and melamine-based resins. Such resins are used in MDF, particleboard and plywood manufacture, in ceiling and wall insulation; they are also used in the manufacture of wrinkle-proof fabrics.
Formaldehyde is also:
- A raw material in the production of Pentaerythritol, Hexamethylenetetramine, 1,4-Butanediol and cellulose esters;
- An intermediate in drugs and pesticide manufacture;
- Widely used for preventing rotting of beets in the sugar industry;
- Used to render casein, albumin and gelatin insoluble, in chemical analysis, as a tissue fixative, as a preservative, disinfectant and antiseptic, in embalming solutions;
- Used in improving fastness of dyes on fabrics, in tanning and preserving hides, in mordanting and waterproofing fabrics;
- A germicide and fungicide for vegetables and other plants, in destroying flies and other insects, in preserving and coagulating rubber latex.
